ECCLESIASTES 5:4-7

It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay. Let not your mouth lead you into sin, and do not say before the messenger that it was a mistake. ...God is the one you must fear.

IDEAS FOR PUTTING OFF THE SINFUL HEART HABITS
  • By prayer, be willing to confess your sin to God and ask for forgiveness.
  • help your child to willingly and humbly admit what he/she did and ask them for forgiveness.
  • If possible, help your child fulfill his/her promise, and commit to being careful with their vows in the future.

IDEAS FOR PUTTING ON THE GODLY HEART HABITS
  • When tempted to make a promise in the future, remember that God is listening and choose to honor Him with your words.
  • If you cannot faithfully make your promise, honestly admit this, and ask for strength and mercy in the future.

Matthew 5:37

Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.

Ecclesiastes 5:4-7

When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for He has no pleasure in fools.

IDEAS FOR PUTTING OFF THE SINFUL HEART HABITS
  • Break the habit of saying more than you have to. A simple "yes" or "no" with kindness is all you need.
  • Confess to the person that you said more than you should have, and ask for forgiveness for your unfaithfulness to them.

IDEAS FOR PUTTING ON THE GODLY HEART HABITS

Always remember that God is present, and hears what you say to others.

Practice giving honest, kind "yes" or "no" answers with your parents, so you create the right habit.

If you promised someone something and did not deliver, talk to your parent about how you can honor your commitment, and do it.
